Is Reflective Tie Down Safer Than Regular One?
In the world of webbing tie downs for trailers , the ratchet strap and winch strap are playing a important role in cargo securement , cargo strap can be used inside the box trucks and on the flat beds , while winch straps commonly are used with flatbed exclusively . For the record the tie down is a big category, there are much more than just strap tie downs , such as there are grade 70 chains , chain binders, logistic strap , and more .
Actually there is a special kind of tie down straps which get reflective strips on the webbing , in low light the reflective strips can be seen from afar , this sounds like a nice feature, I believe it is. Let’s consider this, even slight improve on the risk should encourage people to get the reflective ratchet straps. We’re just getting started with reflective ratchet straps and winch straps , we don’t know exactly how the how the reflective thing will affect the safety of driving, All we need to know is that if people can easily see the straps on the truck in low light, it’s not likely we will hit the target due to bad sight.
Here we are going to see the most important feature of the reflective tie downs, the price, usually you can figure this out by checking online retailers, a simple search tells us that the reflective ones are about 10% more expensive then non reflective ones, tie down straps are usually sold at $10-$12, so 10% will increase the price a bit , IMHO it should be more expensive, if you want 10 straps the difference will be $10-$20 these straps will last more than a few months, the conservative estimation will be at lease 6 months, it’s only about $3 a month to have the added security of reflectives! I believe spend a few dollars to get the safety benefits is great investment.
